Termessos is the most dramatically sited of the region's ancient cities — a Pisidian stronghold perched over 1,000 metres up in Güllük Dağı National Park, defended by cliffs so formidable that even Alexander the Great could not take it. Its theatre clings to a ridge with peak views, and tombs lie scattered through the surrounding pine forest, rewarding the climb to reach them.
The drive from Antalya Airport covers 47 km and takes 57 minutes, heading north-west before climbing a steep, winding mountain road inside Güllük Dağı National Park. Your driver drops you at the park's upper car park — the road-head for the ruins, reached on foot — and waits through your visit before driving you back.
From the upper car park, a steady uphill footpath leads to the ruins over rocky, uneven ground — allow 20 to 30 minutes each way. Proper walking shoes are essential; the trail is unsuitable for strollers or limited mobility. Pine forest gives shade, but there are no shops on the mountain.
