Konyaalti Beach runs along the western edge of Antalya city, approximately 8 km from the city centre. The name means 'bay under the cliffs', describing its position at the foot of Antalya's western limestone escarpment. The beach is approximately 7 km of fine pebble — Blue Flag certified for water quality — with the Taurus Mountains rising directly behind the shoreline as a distinctive backdrop not found at any other major Turkish resort beach. The combination of clear turquoise water, mountain views, and urban accessibility makes it Antalya's most popular city beach.
The beach has a split character. The eastern end is beach clubs, bars, and DJs with a lively atmosphere; the western stretches are quieter and more local. Antalya Aquarium — one of the world's largest, housing a 131-metre tunnel aquarium and a Snow World at -5°C — sits at the eastern end of the beach strip. Aktur Park amusement park and an Aqualand water park are also on the promenade. Free public sections with toilets, showers, and changing rooms run alongside paid beach club sections. The city's AntRay modern tram runs from Antalya city centre directly to the beach — genuinely useful for city hotel guests. For guests in Belek, Side, Kemer, or Alanya, the tram is irrelevant: they cannot reach it without first travelling to Antalya city, which requires its own transport.
Practical Information for Your Visit
- Best Time to Visit
- May–June and September–October for comfortable temperatures, manageable crowds, and the clearest mountain views. July–August is peak: the beach clubs fill early, parking is competitive, and the eastern promenade is very busy by midday. Morning arrivals (before 09:30) secure the best positions on the public sections. The western stretch of the beach is consistently quieter than the club zone for guests who want a relaxed atmosphere.
- Time Needed
- 4 hours covers a full beach day — the standard MovXtra waiting time. If you plan to add Antalya Aquarium at the eastern end of the promenade (open daily 10:00–23:00), a combined beach and aquarium visit comfortably fills a full day. Extra waiting time can be arranged at booking.
- What to Bring
- Water shoes are recommended — the pebble beach is hard underfoot and the pebbles retain heat by midday; paddling at the water's edge is uncomfortable without footwear on a hot summer day. Sunscreen; the beach faces south and receives full sun from morning to early evening. Cash for sunbed hire and the beach club sections. A towel; the public sections have no sunbed hire — bring your own.
- Opening Hours
- The public beach is freely accessible at all times. Beach clubs open approximately 08:00–23:00 in season; some close earlier outside peak months. Antalya Aquarium: daily 10:00–23:00. Aktur Park: daily from 11:00 (closing times vary by season). The beach promenade is lively until late evening in summer.
Private Transfer vs Dolmuş / Rental Car to Konyaalti Beach
For Antalya city guests, the AntRay tram and dolmuş routes K01, K02, and K03 provide genuine transport options. The tram requires an AntalyaKart; the dolmuş accepts cash. For guests staying within the city, these are workable alternatives. For everyone else, public transport becomes a multi-stage problem.
From Kemer (47 km east toward Antalya), Konyaalti is the closest major beach on the Antalya side — a natural destination for Kemer guests wanting an urban beach day combined with the Aquarium. A rental car is possible, but Antalya city road navigation and the parking situation at the beach add friction. Private transfer from Kemer at 40–55 minutes is the direct option.
From Belek and Side, Konyaalti is further but reachable as a day trip — particularly attractive for guests wanting to combine the beach with Kaleici Old Town or the city centre. The realistic alternative for these guests is either a tour group Antalya city day (which typically includes Konyaalti as a swimming stop) or a private transfer. The tour works for a packaged city day; the private transfer works when the beach itself — plus optional Aquarium — is the specific goal.
